Last week everything was fine, when I come back from vacation this week, this
is the problem at work: I click "sign in" and the icon twirls for about 3
seconds, then stops and I'm at the login screen still.

Any idea what could have changed here at work to prevent the login ? No
error message, until I go to Options and check the connection settings. When
I click the TCP test, it gives the following message:

"Resolving the server name...
We are unable to connect (81000388)."

Windows firewall is off, as it was before I left for a few days of vacation.
WLM was working fine then, but not now.

Any ideas/solutions? Thanks for reading.

Hello,

have you got a Netgear router or another one?

I don't know; I work for a very large company, and we don't have individual
routers. All of our desks have built in wired connections. Just seems so
odd to me that it worked last week, and now it doesn't, so something changed,
I just don't know what.

Hello,
I'm afraid (or happy) that I haven't had that error myself, I can only refer
to this page
http://www.imzers.com/msn/solve/error-code-81000388.
While the problem is being solved, you could use Webmessenger
http://webmessenger.msn.com in the meantime.

Greetings,

Hi ,I am having a problem signing into windows Live messenger. It just
stopped letting me sign in and gives the problem as default gateway , but
there is no problem with the gateway. I am running XP and can't sign in to
Windows messenger either but I can get into hotmail. I updated Norton and
had to restart to install the updates and then I could not get into Windows
Live meassenger.
