Can't Solve Error 0x80070643

I have XP with SP2 installed. The problem now is that update KB885884 won't
install. The update log file lists error code 0x80070643. I tried all fix
methods listed in the XP help file addressing this error code (except the
method for repairing the Microsoft Root Authority certificate ... since I
don't have another computer handy and it appears my certificate is OK). As
suggested in other posts, I also tried downloading the update directly from
the update site to my hard drive and then installing from there ... again, no
help. I also sought help from the Microsoft email help desk and have not
heard back.

Any suggestions for a fix would be welcome. Thanks.

There are currently a few articles that now rectify this error within XP.
