can't start conversations

When I sign in on Windows Live Messenger, I see all my contacts who are
online and offline, I can check my e-mails and so on, but when I double click
a contact to start a conversation with, I get a message that it is not
possible to start a conversation with that person. I tried with all my
contacts but I can't start a conversation. Can somebody help me please
because it's getting on my nerves, especially when you really need to talk
with someone.

Firstly try installing Live Messenger 8.5 has its connectivity is far superior to 8.1:

Secondly, are you using any third party firewall software applications such as ZoneAlarm,
Norton Internet Security, etc.? If so, completely uninstall them for the time being and see
if your problem is resolved. If it is, reinstall them.
