Can't sync MSMoney to Pocket Money

Hello,
Installed Pocket Money 2002 on PDA, and was able to sync with PC Money 2002
for a few days. Then got the "Attention required" message that Money sync
had failed (everything else worked fine, contacts, inbox, calender, etc).
Tried Uninstalling and reinstalling Pocket Money (PDA side and PC side), PDA
app wouldn't completely uninstall, but rather soft-reset. So, couldn't get
a clean re-install....until I hard reset the PDA and reinstalled EVERYTHING.
Worked for a few more days and problem returned.

Recently upgraded both PC and PDA to Money/Pocket Money 2004. Lost ability
to sync in about 3 days.

So, there are 2 questions:
1. Does this Sync problem with MS Money happen commonly to others?
2. Is there a bomb-proof way to uninstall an app from the PDA ("Remove
Programs" on PDA and "Add/Remove Programs"in ActiveSync both failed to
completely uninstall).

Thank you,

David

Hello David,

It is known to occur on a few occasions. Best way to uninstall any
application would be to ensure you stop the relevant program from running in
Memory ( Tap Start -> Settings -> System -> Memory -> Running Programs tab)
or simply perform a soft reset before uninstalling.

What makes you think your PDA app is not uninstalled completely ? Does it
appear in the list of Programs installed on your PPC --- ( Tap Start ->
Settings -> System -> Remove Program and see if it is listed there) or is it
because it displays the Microsoft Money icon in the Programs list (Tap
Start -> Programs) ?

I few standard troubleshooting steps have been listed on the page below, see
if it helps solve your problem ---

Raj,

It works! Your website had these suggestions:
__________________________

Here are a few standard troubleshooting steps you can try to overcome the
problem:

a.. Soft Reset the Pocket PC.

b.. Use Repair feature in Money to eliminate any possible Money data file
corruption. Refer Microsoft Knowledge Base article - 182608.

c.. Delete and then re-create the ActiveSync partnership.

d.. Uninstall and then reinstall Microsoft Money for Pocket PC.

I had already tried #1 and #4 w/o success. #2 solved the synchronization
problem.

The remaining mysteries are a) why does sync fail so frequently and b) why
couldn't I uninstall from PPC?

To answer your question about how I knew it didn't completely uninstall, 3
reasons:
1. Settings/System/Remove programs continued to show Pocket Money; it was
removed from Windows/Start Menu /Programs.
2. Add/Remove Programs from Desktop ActiveSync showed Pocket Money but
greyed out.
3. When I attempted to re-install Pocket Money, PPC said "Pocket Money
already installed, re-install?

Anyway, its working great now. Thanks very much for your help.

Hi David,

a) Why does sync fail so frequently?

Hard to say.... probably due to file corruption while opening,
reading/writing and closing.

b) Why couldn't I uninstall from PPC?

Let me guess -- You removed Microsoft Money for Pocket PC using the
Add/Remove Programs interface provided by the desktop operating system. Due
to which the Money for PPC application was uninstalled *only* from the
desktop. The grayed out check box meant that it was installed only on the
Pocket PC.

Therefore, when you tried to re-install Pocket Money, it displayed the
dialog stating - "Pocket Money already installed, re-install?"

To remove a program, follow the steps given below:

1. Connect the PPC to the Desktop computer.
2. In ActiveSync, click the Tools menu.
3. Click Add/Remove Programs, and do one of the following:

* To remove a program from the PPC, clear its check box by
clicking it.
* To remove a program from both the PPC and the Desktop
computer, select it and click Remove.

5. The program will be uninstalled.
6. Close ActiveSync.

I hope you find this information useful.
