Can't update, error in BITS, help appriciated

Tryed to update, gave error 0x80246008, used the help function to fix that
error. Had to cheack the BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) in
the system.msc using RUN and uysing the properrties set the start up to
automatic and check that it was started. It was stopped. I pressed start and
it gave error 1083 - The executable program that this service is configured
to run in doesn't implement the service. Can't find how to fix the error and
therefore can't get the updates....any help would be much appriciated

I have exactly the same problem and can't find a solution anywhere. I
tried updating EVERYTHING including BITS, Installer, Genuine Advantage,
sc.exe stuff and anything else I could find. No joy. Any help out
there?
