Windows update does not work, not automaticly, nor manualy. It looks like the
updates are downloaded to my computer, but then the proces stops and I get
the message that de update has failed. In the history I see the error-code
0x80246008. Canb anyone help?

From the V6 Windows Update Troubleshooter :

" Problem description
This error may occur if one or more of the following services are
disabled or unavailable. Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
Event Log

Resolutions
1. Set Background Intelligent Transfer Service to Automatic and verify
the Status is Started.
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Find the Background Intelligent Transfer Service service, and
right-click to select it.
Select Properties.
In the Startup Type list, select Automatic.
Verify the service Status is Started.
Click OK.

2. Set Event Log service to Automatic and verify that the Status is Started
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Find the Event Log service, and right-click to select it.
Select Properties.
In the Startup type list, select Automatic.
Verify the Service status is Started.
Click OK.

3. Register qmgr.dll
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
Click OK.

Register qmgrprxy.dll
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
Click OK. "

NOTE: BITS can be set to Manual instead of Automatic and the update
process will still function correctly.

The BITS won't let me start it. It says windows could not start it on the
local computer and if this is a non-microsoft service to refer to the
specific error code -2147024894. I mean I can't get my windows update so I'm
trying to do what you said and having problems with this.

Click Start, select Run, then type in: SERVICES.MSC
Make sure the "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" is started and on automatic.

I'm experience the same problem. BITS will not start. RPC is running and set
to start automatically. All the previously mentioned DLLs have been
registered. BITS is registered in netsvcs.

0x80246008 WU_E_DM_FAILTOCONNECTTOBITS
A download manager operation failed because the download manager was
unable to connect the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS).

Please see: How to read the Windowsupdate.log file
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093

Try another attempt at updating. If/when it fails, please post back and
include the below requested information -

1) The edition of Windows installed and it's Service Pack level
2) Copy and paste at least the last 50 or so lines of the
WindowsUpdate.log into your reply
3) What is the installed antivirus/security suite; is it's subscription
current; was any malware detected when the system was last scanned ?
4) Is a 3rd party firewall being used; if yes, what is it ?
5) How long this error has been occurring ?
