I had to reinstall XP Home due to a spyware infection. Everything went
reasonably well except, I cant get movie maker to version 2.1. It is
currently at 2.0.3312.
This version freezes frequently. The really frustrating part is that when it
does, the on-line crash support notifiies me that the problem can be fixed by
upgrading, however try as I might neither windows or microsoft update seems
to detect the need to upgrade. I tried to de-install, however I cannot find
movie maker in the control panel under add/remove programs or window
components (maybe this is part of the problem). Any help would be
appreciated. I really like Movie Maker and would like to continue using it,
however the frequent crashes are killing me.

Another curiosity I noticed. I thought I would rename the 2.1 dlls to see
this would prompt windows update to download the right version of
moviemk.exe. When I deleted or renamed the dlls they woul reappear. I am not
sure if this is windows or my virus protection or something more sinister.

Ha! I think I have fixed it. I found the correct version of moviemk.exe in
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 and moved it to c:\program files\movie maker\

So far so good. I have no idea how this happened.
