Belated thanks for your response. I really appreciate it.
Because of my update problem and other Windows-related problems, I decided
to perform another reinstall. That fixed it, or at least so far.
I had never heard of Neowin or autopatcher. They could be a Godsend at work
where I run a computer room for a group of disabled veterans at the local VA
hospital. We are allowed to have only PC that can access the Internet, even
though we could use another one.
This means that every time I have to use the manufacturers system recovery
facility, the state of the system is set back to late 2004. As a result, the
Windows security downloads totals over 90MB. It takes more than a day to
finish the downloads and install them. This, taken with the updates to our
security software, knocks our Internet service out for about two days.
I have visited Neowin;s site but haven't figurer how to download the latest
Autopatcher. The June edition isn't ready to be downloaded yet. I would be
overjoyed with the May edition, but I haven't seen any way to get it. Use of
Neowin would knock more than a day off the re-setup.
I am totally new with this. Is there some reason why this wouldn't/couldn't
work?
