Can't update - win98 or login to internet thru YAHOO login

Like Victor's question I get an the following error message: Windows Update
Error

Windows Update has encountered an error. This mat be due to a discrepancy
in your computer's time setting. ........verify that the date and time are
correct.

They are, yet I keep getting the error Message.

When I try to skip the windows update and login using Internet Explorer I
get a login screen. The screen keeps reappearing. It keeps asking me to
login.

Any suggestions?
