Hi, I think this is something to do with being unable to connect to the
Internet. I have a Linksys/Cisco AG-241 4-port switch/router/ADSL modem, and
I went into port forwarding and enabled port 443, which is the Windows update
port according to a forum thread I read somewhere. But even then I can't
update Windows. I may be using port forwarding incorrectly. It asks for a
PVC, but I have no idea what that is. My internal IP address is
192.168.1.66, and I'm forwarding port 443 traffic over TCP from the outside
world to this machine I'm trying to update. It's Ethernet connection 3, that
is to say the ethernet cable is plugged into the third ethernet port on the
Linksys AG-241 box. I don't know if that's supposed to be PVC 3.
I'm running Windows XP Professional x64 edition. I haven't activated it
yet, and I have the Windows firewall on. I'm not sure if that has anything
to do with it. I'd rather hold out activating until I can find an anti-WPA
product or something. With the Windows firewall, I probably don't need it,
but then again I have no idea.
Thanks for your help. :-)
