can't update windows xp after repair install

Error 0x8007043B


i still have the windows update icon.
if i click it, the page opens in the browser.
when i click on Express Installation, i get that error.
Any method i use trying to update gives me that error.

Since i just did a repair install i'm worried that my
computer is vulnerable since i am now running none of the
service packs until i update!

This issue can occur if the "Automatic Updates" service is not running.
Check and see if you can start the AU service and change its startup type to
"Automatic".


If you find that this service is not listed there, the most likely cause is
that

the corresponding values are missing from the following Registry key:



HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\wuauserv



To resolve the issue, find a good computer and export this key. Then import
the key

to the problematic computer.



NOTE: Under the

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\wuauserv\Parameters"
key,

there is a value:



Value Name: Service Dll

Value Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ

Value Data: C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauserv.dll



Please make sure that the path to the wuauserv.dll file is correct.
