Installed XP sp2. I go to windows update via IE and it wants to install
the .NET Framework Service pack 1. Windows update downloads to my pc
and dies on installation.

Also I have tried to install Windows Media Player 10. I run the install
program and it indicates that I have "low drive space, or corrupted
CAB file".

I have over 20gigs free on my system drive. This download of WMP10 was
directly from Microsoft's site.

anybody else?

Yes, same problem here (with the .NET Framework upgrade) and I have plenty of
disk space available etc. It is not a resource issue
I have installed the latest Media player, and have not seen the
"insufficient disk space" message.

if you have problems whit the NET 1.1 then uninstall it - or better - used

I had the same situation just after loading SP2. My only way out was a
complet reformat of my Hard Drive and a reinstall of XP.

I tried everything and spent 6 long hours on the phone with Microsoft to try
to correct the problem. My PC was so messed up I just gave up.

Thanks, a complete reinstall is what worked. Now it takes the patch

I should have been more specific in my last post, I did an ontop reinstall
of the .net framework ONLY. I didn't uninstall, infact it didn't even show
up as installed in the control pannel. I did NOT reinstall XP or XSSP2, and
geez Louise, I did NOT have to reformat my hard drive :-)

Thanks for the info.

Windows Update via IE 6 wants to "update" my current copy of XP with
SP2 installed that has .net 1.1 with sp1... makes total sense to me!

Some major disconnects between the IE6 update engine and the Windows
update engine.
