Hi

I posted about a year ago re this, but no 'fix' forthcoming at the time...I
was told SP1 may address it but alas...

My PC has 2 internall HDDs, a CD Drive and a DVD Drive.

Completely randomly one or other of the CD/DVD drives will simply dissapear
and only a reboot will see it return.

I tried the Upper/Lower filters 'fix' today, removing both items from
Registry after backing them up, only to find BOTH drives gone...so reapplied
from backup and they're both back.

I just did a CD Copy using Roxio EZCD Creator 9, FROM a CD in the CD drive
to a CD in the DVD Drive, copy went faultlessly, BUT as soon as completed,
yep, the CD Drive had disappeared from list of visible drives.

Reboot, it's back!

This is my only issue with Vista now, after a year and a half, and it fairly
is driving me me nuts!

Rgds

not sure if this will help you or not but are both drives ide ? if so
how do you have them setup? what i'm getting at is one has to be
(master) and the other (slave).
you may want to check your jumpers on each drive and make sure thats
how you have it setup.

Mmm...will have to open her up and check. Tks for the thought. Would this
effect the drives randomly though? Sometimes all ok, sometimes not...

....nevertheless, out with the screwdriver!!!

I had a problem where I have 2 Cd/DVDs on one IDE cable. The bios read the
CD, but not windows. I unplugged the cables and noticed a jumper had been
set on one unit as "CS" or cable select. The other unit's jumper was set as
"Slave". When I set the Slave to CS, windows read it with no problem.
