"Looking for a clue",
I'm sorry you are running into this error, but perhaps this is best so that you
can get the right update for your system. The reason I say this is: the error
you mention essentially means, "Bad Image Format", suggesting that your Service
Pack is corrupted somehow. You do NOT want SP2 right now anyway, but instead
Service Pack 4, which incorporates all previous service packs within it.
This is Windows 2000, right?
Try directly downloading the service pack and running it. Here is the direct
download site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
1. Click the Download button
2. Choose Save
3. Choose a directory you will remember, so that you can find this download
4. As the large file is downloading, in the dialog box, uncheck the "Close this
dialog box when download is complete."
5. Once download is complete, the Open button is activated, click Open
6. Follow the prompts to install Service Pack 4
Let us know how this goes.
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]
