Vista home premium. When I try and burn within windows explorer or media
centre, it takes far, and I mean FAR, longer than if I use Roxio.

A typical time for burning 700 megs would be in excess of 14 days. In roxio
it takes five minutes.

Any ideas why this would be?

Hi,

Typically, in XP, installing a third party burning program disabled the
native burning service. While Vista doesn't have a specific service, the
process is still similar. If you install a third party product, then use it
and do not rely on the native burning engine.

I'm also having some problems burning CD's.. for one thing, I can't
find Roxio CD burner, in my new machine, which I've used a lot at work
(XP) and as far as I know, they didn't purchase it separately, it came
with the machine.. (also used it at previous job..) so why can't I find
Roxio in Vista??

yesterday tried burning a simple data CD for the first time, the weird
thing is it prompted me to FORMAT the CD.. since when do CD's need to be
formatted before you burn them??

can someone enlighten me here, pls..

thank you very much...

Roxio is a third party application and NOT included with any form of
Windows. If you want it, be sure to get the latest version, older
versions that worked in XP won't work in Vista.

Depends HOW you're going to use the CD.

That'd be the one. Roxio's software may have been bundled with Windows on
your previous machineby the manufacturer, but it has never been part of it.
Most often, people get a copy when purchasing a new drive and install it at
that point. Otherwise, purchasing a retail copy is the way to go.
