Try replacing the drive.

Go to start/control panel/device manager. Do you have a yello
exclamation mark on the dvd/cd-rom drive? If so, right click your dv
drive and then click "update driver software" and let windows search fo
a driver. If this fails, the only other suggestion I have is to try
system restore back to a point when the drive was ok

Hi,

a) Try a lens cleaner disk, it may simply be clogged. If this fails but the
drive appears to operate normally otherwise, it is likely that it needs to
be replaced.

b) Do you see the drive listed in Windows Explorer? If it's not listed and
you have not made any changes, follow the steps here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

c) Is the drive enumerated in the system BIOS? If not, a connection may have
come loose or the drive has failed, necessitating replacement.
