Maybe there should be a cd/dvd media test for the downloaded images so that
there is no disc errors. Fedora has a disc check for every release of their

There usually is a MD5 or SHA1 hash checksum is
posted for the downloads. Microsoft promised
about 2 years ago they would post the sums for
all downloads and it seems they are slowly
getting around to doing it.

There were sums posted for the CPP Beta2, RC1
(5600), and RC1 (5728).

Microsoft tells you how to do this file download check on the download page.

Hint: It has to do with MD5 checksums.

If you actually want to check the burned DVD, look to burner software for
possible solutions.

If the check sum doesn't match, you have a bad download. You will never be
able to burn the DVD with such a download.

Make sure you have the correct MD5 signature. There are two. One is for 32
bit O/S, the other is for the 64 bit O/S.

Create MD5 checksum with IsoBuster (http://www.isobuster.com). The process is
as following:

Select
File
Open Image File
Select rhe file:
vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-lr1cfre_en_dvd.iso

Select:
File
DVD
MD5 Checksum File
Create MD5 Checksum
For this image file

Resulting MD5 text file looks like

# MD5 checksum generated by IsoBuster 1.9.1.1 (http://www.isobuster.com)

22486e815a38feffd9667317dfeec55a
*vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-lr1cfre_en_dvd.iso

Because, I did not write down the Microsoft's MD5 from the download page, I
can’t say is this same or not. Anyway, burning and istallalling went okay, so
this was valid image.
