I have a question for anyone that has some advice on this. I have somehwere
in the neighborhood of 350 to 400 CDs dating back as far as 1980 till present
day. I've been thinking of converting one of my old PCs into a storage unit
of sorts for all my music. I figure it's easy enough to just use Windows
Media to rip and store all my CDs as MP3s. Was just wondering if anyoen had
advice on the best organization method so that I can easily find what Im
looking for once stored. Any ideas? Appreciate any advice.

Windows Media Player will automatically sort alphabetically by artist. At
least, it has for me. So, Aerosmith comes before Blue Oyster Cult. WMP
finds album covers and shows them in the default view.

I chose to rip all my CD's at the highest bit-rate WMP allows and in .wma
format. I don't like the performance of MP3 files and I don't have a
portable player anyway. The resulting files are large, but are true CD
audio quality. If storage is not an issue, as in you have several hundred
gigabytes available, this is the route I would take. Typical file size
(depends on track length, of course) is about 15 to 25 MB.
