cd rom malfuntion

I have recently lost windows do to major comp. prob., reinstalled windows and
now have my (Compaq Presaio Desktop) which I bought in 2003 working great but
the cd drive doesnt work at all (doesnt even report errors) and ive tried
everything I can to troubleshoot it, went through all the steps and nothing
worked. The light blinks and it makes a little noise for like 20 sec., like
its trying to read it but it cant. I have tried games, c.d.'s, burning online
music to c.d. and everything else. Please Help me!!!!!!

Hi there,

Try cleaning the laser with a special cleaning cd, if that does not help
buy a new cd rom drive after 5 years almost the laser might be end of life.
