My cd rom does not work. When i put a cd in, either music, or one to install
a program, the light goes on for a bit, but it doesnt do anything after that.
I can't hear the cd turning, and if i'm trying to install a program, it keeps
asking me to put the cd in the drive.

Check the status of the drive in Device Manager. Check to see that the
drive is shown in My Computer. If Device Manager shows no problems and the
drive is shown in My Computer, but you hear no sound of the drive working
after you insert a disk, it could be faulty. You can buy a CD - ROM drive
for less than $30.00 from any number of online and brick-and-mortar stores.

I am also having this problem. But my problem happen after the windows
update. Before the update it was working prefectly well. By the way this is a
new computer less then a week old. I had tried all the methods mention on the
troubleshoot help and the status of the device is working well. I can't view
the data in the any cd-rom i used and the reading light is on. By the way, i
had try to restore my system to the previous setting using system restore.
But it still won't work.
Anyone can provide me with the help before i really had to call up the
customer service for help.

I don't know if the following is your problem, but:

If Device Manager and/or Windows Explorer doesn't list your CD-ROM try
Microsoft Knowledge Base #320553.

I have the same. Cannot read any cd I put in the drives. If I put a cd in
then reboot my machine It works ok for that cd only. But if I take it out and
put into the second drive (e it shows it as a blank cd. This is all
happening since installing sp2

I am glad to here that I am not the only one having a problem with the CD. I
have contacted the manufacturer of my computer, did everything that the tech
suggested and still does not work. This started after updating Windows!
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I am another member of the "none working CD/DVD" club being exactly the same
as Monalisa. Seems that no one has an answer. Its driving me mad. Let us all
hope that father Christmas is reading this discussion and has the answer!
