cdrom drives not being detected

all of a sudden when i start my computer in normal mode it wont detect either
cd rom.nor will it show them in device manager.it will show them in safe mde
though.how can i fix this problem and can i use my startup disk too fix
this?by the way i use windows me.if i can use my startup disk can someone
give me the prompt commands to do so,as i am not to good at using the
disk?thank you
