I have a single PC at home running Windows XP Pro and the following
updates fail to install when I run Windows Update:

KB920813
KB929064
KB925251

When checking my update history, all three show this error code:

0x80070643

Any suggestions as to what is wrong & how to fix it?

Thanks.

I believe those all all Microsoft Office 2003 updates, Try the ose resolution
listed in kb 903774 here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903774/
If that doesn't resolve take a look at kb 903772 here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903774/
it speaks about SUS but users of MS update have also been helped by it.
Lasly I have seen reports of some registry cleaners causing Office updates to
fail and unless it allows you to restore the entries it previosly removed
you may have to reinstall Office to correct this,

Charlie, I don't have MS Office installed, but I do have MS FrontPage
2003 & MS Word 2002 installed. Do I have to reinstall those two
programs since the fixes you suggested didn't work?

I'm not real familiar with problems concerning just those two. There's still
a few things we can try first. Since these are Office programs go here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/do...s/default.aspx
Then click on the Office Update link in the lefthand frame and follow the
prompts to install the Microsoft Office Install Engine. You may need to have
the install disks for the two programs handy during the setup process. When
the check for updates lists results see if you can install the updates this
way.

If this fails we can try manually installing - download the updates and save
to your desktop from the links below, then attempt to install individually.
KB920813
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

KB929064
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

KB925251
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

If it still fails then attempt a manual install in safe mode, if you are
unfamiliar see #3 under method 3 in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910339
If this fails then the last thing I can suggest is uninstalling the
programs, rebooting, reinstalling and then reattempting the update. I will
continue researching this and if I discover anything new I will pass it
along, post back with your results- Charlie

Note too I tried all these in safe mode too without success....I get no error
messages other than it failed.

I am having the same problem with these and others totalling 7 in all. I
have reloaded the temporary folders "net stop WuAuServ" then reloading, and
manually, according to MicrosHard instructions all with out any success. the
older updates work fine, but these new ones seem tohave a problem of some
sort.

I have been dealing with this same issue (7 Office 2003 updates) for a week
now. MS Support gave me several trail and error suggestions, but said this
one would "take considerable time to resolve". I have had to shut WAU down
for now...not good, but I was tired of continual downlaods/failed installs,
downloads/failed installs, etc
