Is there a way to take a single folder and change the background of it like
in WIN98?
IE: You can change the font, font color, background picture, ETC...

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
John Freeze

You could also do that in Win2000 and XP with a bit of folder.ini file
editing.

You can no longer do that in Vista, without third party software. I found
this on Google:

No. The Active Desktop has been changed since 98. You could copy one of the
old 'desktop.ini' files from a 98 folder, and the code would work, but the
first time you opened the Properties of the folder, they would be reset to
Vista standards.

but does this utility work without missing up the OS in anyway?

in Windows 98 Windows 2000 and Windows XP , it was all handled through
desktop.ini and could be done without any third party software. to do this
action in XP you just extract the "IESHWIZ.EXE" from Windows 2000's system
folder or whatever. to use it you click on it while it is in the folder it
is in. oddly i have seen others who have extracted the utility as well from
windows 2000 as well for use in windows XP.

i tried to get it to work in vista, but but Vista does not seem to work with
this NT type utility. it works off of desktop.ini vista uses desktop.ini as
well, but i think it uses the file in slightly different way than the NT
systems do.

r u happy with vista? I made a contact with microsoft, so now i have to
upgrade to vista. damn them, but for older applications i just virtualize
older versions of windows. I am also beta testing Windows 7 now. I am also
starting to beta test windows 7, it is so much better than vista in a few
ways. but then it is just in beta form.

No, I'm not very happy with Vista. I run XP on the tx1000z even though
it came preinstalled with Vista and everything on it works fine with XP.
I've been able to avoid Vista thus far at home, but at work I'll have
to support it eventually so I have been working with it alot lately
trying to get it to suitable functionality for the production
environment. Even at work, we still want to stick with XP but the fact
of the matter is that eventually new machines will not be compatible
with XP and by then I need to make sure that all of our systems and
software needed to do business will work on Vista. Starting a business,
eh? That's great, I wish you luck. And I really do hope that Windows 7
turns out better than Vista!
