change default program when opening attachments

does anyone know how to change the default program for opening attachments?
Right now Vista is opening documents and spreadsheets in microsoft works. I
have downloaded microsoft word and excel and would rather have those set as
my default.

Downloaded? Do you mean installed?

Right-click on any .doc file and choose Open With. Choose Word, and
check the box that says "Always use this program..."

Do the same thing with any .xls file and Excel.
