I need to change my OS from Vista Premium (from factory) to XP Pro ue to
software problems. Do I need to purchase the full XP Pro or can I just do an

Thanks.

Hi
Yes the full XP version {clean install only} ,unless you have an old 98 or
me disc around that you can use for the XP upgrade disc still a clean install
only .
XP will not down grade Vista !!
Then you may still have problems finding drivers for XP if the PC is a new
one !!
Good Luck

XP to Vista is the upgrade. You cannot reverse unless XP was on the drive
before Vista was loaded. It a new clean install after you format your
drive. Yes you need the XP cd.

Yes, you will need to buy a copy of XP Pro, and you can't do an "upgrade" as
other posters have suggested, it will need to be a wipe and clean install
process.

As one of the previous posters noted, you will have difficulty finding
drivers for the machine. There is hope if it is a business model, but I'll
assume it's not if it has home premium. Some of the hardware may not work in
XP, but it could be limited to a dial-up modem or something similarily
useless.

Vista to XP is a downgrade, not an upgrade. Downgrades are never
supported.

You can either

1. Buy a Full retail or OEM version and do a clean installation.

2. If you own a previous qualifying version for XP (Windows 98, 98SE,
Me, or 2000), you can buy an Upgrade version of XP Professional and do
a clean installation with it, inserting the CD of the previous
qualifying version as proof of ownership when prompted to do so.

I almost always recommend against OEM versions, because they come with
several restrictions, the most severe of which is that they can never
legally be moved to another computer, even if the original one dies. I
recommend buying and doing a clean installation with the Upgrade
version. If you don't already have a previous qualifying version, you
should be able to buy a used copy of Windows 98 inexpensively.

Wrong! Proving once again MVPs are often clueless on the topics that
post about.

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...rencesheet.pdf

Further the entire issue of "rights" is vague and not spelled out well
enough and could come under legal challenge. This is an interesting
article that addresses that topic.

My main problem with MVPs is general is they always seem attached at
the hip to Microsoft, blindly acting as shills and just parrot
Microsoft policy without regard to facts or user interests.

I simply set the record straight. Live with it.
