Change password from desktop does not work

Hi,

Whenever my users try to change their password (ctrl+alt+del > change
password) they are told that their password does not meet the policy
requirements - which is not true. I have tried this on my Vista desktop and
at first it worked. I then tried it again and it wouldn't work, and the
second password was much more complex than the first attempt. So, I tried
to reset my password using the SBS Console to this second password that was
rejected on the grounds of not meeting the complexity policy requirements
and it worked. So obviously this second password was fine, but it was not
being accepted from the desktop.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

TIA,

Jarryd

When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:

Boot computer and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice when you See Windows welcome screen / login screen. It'll show classic login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in username field and leave password field blank, press Enter and you should be able to login Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".

If it doesn't work, you will need to create a windows password reset disk by third party software. Then try this:

Windows Password Unlocker reset any Windows passwords instantly. Enhanced with the genuine Windows GUI, this windows password recovery tool is easy to operate in only 4 steps for Windows 2000/2003/2008/NT/XP/Vista/7. No need to reinstall the system any more.

Only three steps can help you reset the lost Windows password:

The whole Windows password recovery process can be divided to 3 big steps:

* >> Step 1: Burn a USB flash drive to remove lost Windows password
* >> Step 2: Set your target computer to boot from USB/cd/dvd
* >> Step 3: Recover forgotten Windows password with the burned USB/cd/dvd flash drive

Hi,

That is not the problem. Besides, that (Num + Char) isn't complex enough.
The default requirements are (and I haven't changed these):
1.) the password cannot contain the username, and
2.) 3 of the following:
a.) Must contain at least 1 character [0] - [9]
b.) Must contain at least 1 character [a] - [z]
c.) Must contain at least 1 character [A] - [Z]
d.) Must contain at least 1 special character (e.g. !, $, %, &, -, _)

It is truly bizarre and annoying. Please help!!!

TIA,

Jarryd

Hi, sorry point 2 is misleading, I meant to say:
"3 of the following must be true: ..."

Cheers,

Jarryd
