Change Read-Only Attribute

I need to change the read-only attribute of a folder, to make it
writable. However, the box shows a blue square, not a check mark, and I
can't seem to clear the box. Clicking on the box, clears the blue
square, and when I click the apply button the machine asks about
applying the change to sub-folders and files. I click yes, and then ok
to close the box, but If I then re-open the properties of the folder,
the blue square is back, and the folder is not writable.

Anyone know whats going on, and how to fix it?

TIA.

Try this: Open an Admin Command Prompt. Navigate to the folder in question
e.g. cd\users\william\foldername.
Type attrib -r. Press Enter.

Hi, William:

The read-only attribute *for folders* is usually ignored by Windows. Take a
close look at this article from the KB:

You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders
in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, or in Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326549/en-us
