Change Selected color in Explorer etc

When I have, for example, Explorer open and I click on something to select
it I can barely see any difference in appearance between the selected item
and the non selected items. I am using Aero. Non selected items are
against a white background while selected items seem to be against a very
pale blue or green.

How can I change this?

Just as in previous versions. Right-click on desktop, choose Personalize.
Click on Window Color and appearance. At the bottom click on "open classic
appearance properties..." then click on Advanced.

Got a fix for those of us who don't have Aero (Home Basic)?

Dunno. What options do you get when you right-click on the desktop?

After Personalize, Color and Appearance... pretty much the same thing
as I had in XP.

Playing around in "Advanced" (there is no "open classic..." option)
has done nothing to help.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it appears that you have to give
up aero to do this. The dialog says that you have to choose a Classic
desktop for this to work.

Perhaps I need to find out how to download new Aero Themes.

I think everyone is. I've seen this question asked before on several
occasions and no one has a fix. Your suggestion to the OP didn't work
either.

re: Ritchie's question. It is a fair question that millions of us would
like an answer to. It can not be that difficult for MS to fix or make
changeable. If the members and monitors of this forum can not give a
qualified answer then it is time the someone from MS come up with a
better answer than the SOL posted in this thread.

Hi,

The forum you are posting from primarily is nothing more than a web
interface that slurps posts from Microsoft's newsservers. This is why you
primarily see "guest" responses. These public newsservers are an
unmoderated, unsupported, peer-to-peer support venue, so it is unlikely that
anyone from Microsoft that is in a position of authority will see this. In
addition, since you did not quote what you were responding to, the vast
majority have no idea what issue you are referring to.
