On a Vista system, the music that plays when one's computer is turned
on is not easily changed, as it is in Win XP.

How can the Vista boot-up music be changed to a different one of the
user's choice?

Thanks.

The startup sound is hard coded, but can be muted. You can still set your
own login sound though, pretty close to the same thing.

some people have reported that they have hacked the dll that its hard coded
into
with a program and replaced the sound inside...

I could do it too.. but I think its too much hassle.. do what RTK said,
excellent advice.
Mute it and change the login sound

OK, thanks. Exactly what is the procedure to first mute it, and then
to change the login sound?

Wow, that sucks. They are locking down vista even more then and
allowing less customization apparently. In any older version of windows
you could use a free bianary editor to change the splash screen/sound.
Too bad!

This is hardly a critical customization object. You can achieve the same
results, so what's the issue?

At least they allow you to mute this item, unlike another OS named after
cats.
