Hi all,

The default Windows Messenger port is blocked by the router. How can I
change my connection port to get access to Windows Messenger? (without using
WebMessenger)

Thanks!
Cheers,
André

Greetings Andre,

Messenger will first try port 1863 and failing that, will try port 80. However, either port
will also require port 443 for SSL authentication. So unless the router is blocking web
access, I doubt it's merely "blocking the port".

Without further information, the only other real option is to connect through a proxy you do
have access to, perhaps one your ISP provides, one a friend could put up for you or even
google up some free one.

Normally this is because The server is down, but on the 'Server Status'
webpage, Microsoft have... i've never seen it say 'Down' its always 'System
Stable and Running' When we know for sure its not always running perfect.

If you leave it for a few hours, then come back to it, it should work fine.
Try a restart on your computer as well.

Thanks

Greetings,

Messenger tries port 1863 and failing that will try port 80 (standard HTTP port).
It also needs port 443 (HTTPS) for authentication. All outgoing.

That said, most than likely it's specifically banned if HTTP and HTTPS isn't working. In
which case you'd have to use one of the web-based solutions.
