Change from XP Home to XP Professional

My systems is currently XP Home and I want to install XP Professional. Can I
do this with the XP Pro installation disc? Will I lose any current files in
the change over?

As long as it is the Upgrade package of XP Pro, yes it should be ok. Be sure to being up your current system and login with "Administrator" account. And take this precautions first:
Use Backup on the current system.
Next, close & disable your Antivirus program and all your user programs --- before you do the upgrade.

This group ( .windowsupdate ) is for issues on Windows Update. Issues specific to a given version of Windows belong in their own section.
