Changing Aero Theme

I have much trouble seeing selected items in, say explorer. When I drag and
drop
it's very difficult to see which folder is being selected.
I've gone into the 'Classic appearance properties...' and have changed the
Selected Items
property to a darker blue but the change doesn't happen. Although, when I
change the Icon Font
my system reflect the change. Why can one change one thing in and Aero theme
but no something else??

One most systems you will also notice a significant increase in
performance by switching to classic mode.
