Changing AutoPlay Options

More than a few times, I have wished that a program appeared in the AutoPlay
dialog window as an option to open the 'file' with.

Examples:

1) I use WinDVD for DVD movie viewing, yet it does not appear in the list. I
must cancel AutoPlay and manually start WinDVD. Nor does WinDVD appear in
the available options in Control Panel\Auto Play drop down list.

2) When I insert a compact flash card, I wish the Canon EOS Utility and/or
Adobe Lightroom to appear in the AutoPlay, but neither do. These also do not
appear in the Control Panel\Auto Play drop down list.

How would one add options to the Control Panel Auto Play options list in
Vista Ultimate?

Thanks!
Armando

I tell you what - if you contact WinDVD, Canon, and Adobe support to request
this feature and they tell you they don't know how, I'll personally work
with them to make that happen. (Lemme know the status and we can pass them
along my contact info if needed.)

This feature is implemented by the application vendor, and is actually
really easy to do for DVD playback. The EOS and Lightroom tasks may be more
difficult, but registering for AutoPlay is really child's play to pretty
much any developer.

But yeah: please ask those vendors to support this. There should be
excellent documentation on MSDN for them to refer to here, and I'd suspect
this is already addressed in later versions of those softwares.

I think you may have had a faulty installation of WinDVD. I installed
WinDVD 8 Gold on a Vista 64 Home Primium and it does show up as an
autoplay choice.
