Changing a new Dell Inspiron to 64-bit

Is there a way to do this without "buying a new copy"?

It comes with 32-bit and there was no option to change it.
The Rep said I would have to install a brand new one.
But I was hoping that they didn't know what they are talking about.

Is there a way to perhaps get MS to send a 64-it disk or something and
use the same key? I assume the Dell would come with a key right?

Inspiron what?
Does it support 64bit?
Can you get drivers for 64bit?
Which 64bit OS?

if you ordered the machine with the x86 (32-bit) edition then you will have
to buy a new copy.
As this is OEM (preinstalled with the machine) you are not entitled to the
additional media that Microsoft provide to retail customer - your issue is
with your OEM - in this case Dell.
If they will not supply you with the x64 media then you will have to buy.

:geek: I too have an Inspiron 531 that came with vista business 32 bit
A few weeks ago while surfing for some x64 info, I came across som
forum posts (sorry, can't remember where exactly) that said dell woul
provide me with the x64 version of all the software that came with th
system originaly-free of charge. So after a little more surfing I foun
the request form somewhere on dell's site and (holy cow!) two day
latter the stuff arrived in the mail!(all the more incredible since m
dell was out of warranty!) I just used the x64 cd (literaly two day
ago) to reformat the drive and install vista business x64. So far i
works great! Absolutely no issues! I didn't even have to reactivate th
os! When it finished installing I checked and it was already activated
Sorry I can't tell you exactly where I found this info, but if you'l
dig around some, I'm sure you can find it
