I have Czech version of WML (8.1.0178.00) and there is a problem with
diacritics sign "e" with wedge -> Ä›. After this letter, font always change to
8px Courier. It is not related to font used for chat messages. It it doing
for all kind of fonts. And it is not related to this version of WML, I
noticed this also in older versions of classic Messenger. It seems to me to
some bug related with engine displaying chat messages, which is same as in
previous Messenger versions. Screenshot of this error is available here:
http://www.digidy.com/messlive.gif and is highlighted with yellow color.
Colleague on his PC has the same bug (same version), but my other friends
using WML (same version) are not having this bug. I appreciate, if somebody
could find out a solution for this bug.

Do you type this letter on your keyboard or just copy and paste it?
In WLM the font sometimes changes if you past text from another font or
color...

It is doing in both cases (type letter or paste text with this letter).

I just tryed to reproduce it.
The problem is, that WLM changes your font to "Arial Unicode MS" for
default, because the letter Ä› is not in the font you have selected.
Try selecting the font "Arial Unicode MS" or another font that contains the
letter Ä›.
To check this run "charmap" under Start > Run...
To change your font in WLM, open a conversation window and click the A|B
button.
It worked for me.

Not helped to me. I have to notice, that I'm not a windows novice, I'm using
computers for 18 years :-) This was the first I was testing -> trying to
choose another font, but I'm sure, that all fonts I've tested and using has
"Ä›" sign (all are Central European versions) -> in font select window I've
tested classic system fonts like Arial, Tahoma, Verdana, MS Sans Serif with
"script type" Central European. I have no problems with czech text using this
sign and font in other applications.

It seems to, that the bug is related with another (Microsoft?) application
or shared DLL, which is not installed together with Messenger, but Messenger
is using it (because reinstallation of WML doesnt help). My OS is WinXP Home
(up-to-date with all SP) and I have also installed MS Office 2003 Basic. My
IE version is 6.

If you prefer, we should discuss this via Messenger, I will be online next
6-8 hours.

I tested it again a few times.
It seems to be that WLM resets EVERY font after the using of Ä› to "Arial
Unicode MS".
You can easy see this by selecting the text, copy it and past it to wordpad.
After the letter Ä› the font is "Arial unicode MS". Thats weird.
Btw it isn't just Ä›. Other unicode characters have the same result.
The only way to fix that is to use the font "Arial Unicode MS" I think...
Hope that a member from the Messenger team have a look in this...

Yes, in czech text it is doing only for this one letter. My problem is, that
I haven't Arial unicode MS font :-) Please can you be so kind and send it to
me -> martinkup [] msn [] com? This is also my contact address in WML.

I've tryied to copy and paste broken text to Wordpad and I got interesting
data - first correct part of text up to Ä› is "Tahoma" font (Central European
encoding), since Ä› it is font "SimSun" with encoding CHINESE_GB2312, what is
simply curious. It seems the bug is related with some code related to
Asia/China region.

In chat window, from which it was copied, I have selected Tahoma font and
Central Europen encoding.

If you wish to check the Wordpad data, they are available here:

I have send you the font per Mail.
But I don't know if your contact can see your messages correctly if he/she
hasn't the font installed too...

That seems to be very interesting. I played a litte around.
The letter Ä… for example causes my font to change to "Arial".
But if I use Ä› before Ä… the font stays "Arial Unicode MS".
It seems to be that WLM changes the font in a specific range.
I will do some more experiments. Maybe I can find out more.

Ok here are my "results":

Case "Arial Unicode MS" and "SimSun" and "Arial Black" installed: Font
changes to "Arial Unicode MS" everytime
Case only "Arial Unicode MS" and "Arial Black" installed: Font changes to
"Arial Unicode MS" everytime
Case "Arial Unicode MS" and "SimSun" not installed: Font changes to "Arial
Black"
Case only "SimSun" and "ArialBlack" installed: Font changed to "Arial Black"
Case only "SimSun" instelled: Font changes to "SimSun"
Case NEITHER of them installed: Font changes to "MS Shell Dlg"

At this point I can continue, but its clear: WLM has a range.
And you haven't installed "Arial Black" either, I think?
If your message contains an unicode character it changes the font in this
prirority "Arial Unicode MS" > "Arial Black" > "SimSun" > "MS Shell Dlg" >
..................
WLM changes the font in any case. Even if the specific character is in your
default font.
I's strange, but you can't do anything against it...
