checking for latest updates..NOT

Help..The microsoft page says "checking for latest version of the windows
update software"....... and I wait & wait & wait (it says it should only take
up to a minute depending on connection speed) but obviously it is not
checking my system. I do not get an error code of any description and I have
tried trouble shooter and it hasnt helped, so maybe some whizz here can guide
me step by step. I can download some things if Im not redirected by microsoft
back to page http://v5windowsupdate.microsoft.com, but of course I am
redirected back to this site more often than not. I was unable to download
SP2 so am waiting for them to send me a cd. ( as to download SP2 I was
redirected to the web address mentioned. Thankyou one and all. liz

Try this:

click start, run,

type the following: net.exe stop wuauserv
click OK,

type the following: regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
click OK,

type the following: regsvr32.exe wups.dll
click OK,

type the following: regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
click OK,

type the following: regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
click OK,

type the following: regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll
click OK,

type the following: net.exe start wuauserv
click OK

restart computer
