I'm having the same issue.
I just reformatted using the windows vista home premium 32-bit with sp1 dvd, I started doing updates and I'm getting that same response. I tried MowGreen's command suggestion and I get the error message:
the module "msxm13.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005. For more information about this problem, search using the error code as a serch term.
I did that, downloaded some genuine program but that still didn't help. where do I go next?

2) Was the system restarted after opting into MU ?
1) Which edition of Windows; what Service Pack level is it on; which
Version of Internet Explorer ?
Open a Command Prompt (Elevated Command Prompt in Win7 or Vista by right
clicking cmd and choosing 'Run as admin'; follow the UAC prompts)
At the prompt type in following commands pressing Enter after *each* one
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 muweb.dll
exit
Try MU again.
