When I ask Microsoft to check for available updates on my computer I get the
following message: "Checking for the latest version of the windows update
software", and something like this may take a few moments depending on your
connection speed. But, nothing ever happens! I can wait 30 minutes and
nothing (not even an error message). I have no idea what updates are needed
or what has already been installed on my computer without this feature,
please help!

Try this:
!!Be sure to click OK or hit ENTER for each one!!

Click Start, click Run and then type this:
net.exe stop wuauserv

Click Start, click Run and then type this:
regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll

Click Start, click Run and then type this:
regsvr32 /s wups.dll

Click Start, click Run and then type this:
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll

Click Start, click Run and then type this:
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll

Click Start, click Run and then type this:
regsvr32 /s msxml3.dll

Click Start, click Run and then type this:
net.exe start wuauserv

Now, reboot and try the Windows Update site again.

dak, you're my hero! Your fix worked on my issues below.

- Windows Update error ox8024502d
- MSN Messenger would not connect (can't remember error)
- Quickbooks online banking download error OL-202 ("try again later")
- Not to mention countless mysterious broken links while surfing. All
checking out ok now.

Much better. Thanks!

I hope my list helps others in a search for fixes to the problems above.
