chkdsk /f does not run at boot

I tried both Methods One & Two as suggest in the article posted at

and still can't get chkdsk /f to start when I boot. I have determined
that the corrupt files are in the Microsoft Games folder. When I open
the Games from the Start Menu, the folder is empty. I tried to delete
this folder from Program Files and got the message, "An unexpected error
is preventing the operation. Make a note of this error code, which might
be useful if you get additional help to resolve this problem. Error
0x80070091: The directory is not empty." I copied the Microsoft Games
folder from another computer running the same OS as mine, Vista Home
Premium, and tried to replace the corrupt one on my computer and got the
same message as just stated. When I click on the folder Microsoft Games
in Program Files, I get the message, "Location is not
available. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games is not accessible, the file
or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

When I first discovered that the Games folder was empty, I tried to do
a System Restore to a day I knew that I could access the games. This is
when I discovered that I was unable to do a System Restore until the
corrupted files were repaired. Any additional suggestions would be
appreciated.

Right click on the folder and opt to restore former version

Hello,
First check if autochk.exe exists in the c:\windows\system32 folder.
On the reboot, we run autochk, so if it's missing for any reason that could
cause what you are seeing.
Second, we need to check the registry entry.
When you run chkdsk /f on your system volume the information is stored in
the registry so that it starts during the boot process.
So if the registry entry is corrupted or the permissions are not correct,
it may not start.

We need to Check the Session Manager registry entry

Manager\BootExecute
What is on this entry?

After you run chkdsk /f does the entry change?
It should have autocheck autochk * on it.

and got to the point: Verification 66% complete. Windows Resorce
Protection could not perform the requested operation. I also trie
chkdsk /i. The scan began the verification. During the verificatio
117,504 file records were processed, 6 segments were indicated to b
corrupt. 93 large files were processed. It then stated: Errors found.
CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode. I hope I can find a solutio
to this problem. My computer performs all other functions correctly.

Try installing Windows (repair ? - I run french version) console.
Then you can boot from the console and launch chkdsk with /p
switch.

I hope someone can provide the right wording in english.

Nobody on this board seems to know how to fix this specific error. 0x80070091
I have the exact same problem.... posted here and other places to no avail.
If you do find a solution please post it!!

In reply to the suggestions to try to run chkdsk in Safe Mode - that
brought up another problem. I wasn't able to get the computer to boot
in Safe Mode. It started to boot, but would not complete the process.
The computer froze during boot. The only way I could get back to normal
mode was to turn off the computer. I don't seem to have a problem with
any of the programs, the browser, or e-mail. The only problem that got
me to be aware of my problem was when I noticed that the Games Folder
was empty. When I tried to do a System Restore brought light to this
existing problem. It looks like the only recourse I have now, unless
someone can come up with some other solution, is to do a reformat -
something I would like to avoid doing.

Reformatting will wipe out your OS. You'll need a Windows installation CD to
get it back. Do you have it?

In any event, I would try System Recovery first.

Hello,
What is on the registry before and after you run chkdsk?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session
Manager\BootExecute
Check the value.
Then open an elevated cmd prompt and run chkdsk /f
Recheck the registry value.
Report back what the values are prior to and after running chkdsk /f.
