Problem solved. Long story, short. I had just been letting chkdsk run at
system startup with no options. Doing something else, it asked if I wanted
to run chkdsk with all the options. I did. It found and repaired a sector!
Not only has chkdsk stopped running at boot up, but the 'puter is actually
running better.
Thanks for the help, at least I learned something,
