choosing recipients from contacts folder

I have many contacts and the list is to long to scroll through to select
email recipients. Since the advent of Windows Mail, to easily select
recipients from contacts folders , I have been selecting them (highlighting
them with CTRL & mouse click) and then using the File, Action, Send Email
options. This opened a new message with the selected recipients. This is
no longer working. Why?????

Well, I didn't know to send mails this way, but here it works.
Maybe the mail window doesn't pop up and is hidden behind the explorer
window?
