I'd like to get rid of the nagging
"If you change a file extension the file may become unusable. Are yo
sure...?
message
I've been digging aroun
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\explorer\Advance
and have found the following
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Advanced/Folder/SuperHidden/WarningIfNotDefaul

I thought I won, dleted the entry, rebooted but was disappointed to se
that I stil
have this stupid message
How do I get rid of it
Your helpul ideas are most welcome

The warning message makes a very valid point. If you don't leave in the
extension when renaming a file, either you will find you can't do it under
any circumstances, or you succeed in losing the extension and run the risk of
not being able to open the file.

My "helpful iddea" is to let well alone.

I know what I'm doing on my computer.
If I want to create a DOS command I create a text file and rename i
.cmd
If I want to see the content of a .reg file I have to change th
extension to txt
If I want to install, let's say I digitally unsigned beta displa
driver on my notebook I might have to change the content if the inf fli
in the extracted installer and therefore rename this file to txt etc.
If I want to use a mov flie as desktop background I have to rename i
.mpg or vmw tog et it work. These are just a few examples. I can eve
take ownweship of let's say shell23.dll and rename it shell32.suckmycoc
and if it makes my OS unusabl
it it my trouble and it was my decision to searh for trouble
I know that 99 per cent of computer users have no idea of the operatin
sytem they're working with and therefore there are tons of warnings bu
I do not want to
get warned. I have systerm restore points and full backup images of m
drive C: s
whatever damage I make I can correct it.Thank you for you
