church computer, XP update problem from ME problem

I updated from Windows ME to XP Second Edition and everything seemed to go OK.

However, when I try to use the File menu item of "My Computer" the system
locks up with the hour glass indicator. After a while the entire screen
repaints & the screen looks just like it does after you initially enter your
password.

A re-install of XP on top of XP did nothing to cure the problem.

Is there some dll or other component which can be replaced which may fix
this problem?

Jane,

Was this a "clean install" with a full format of the hard drive or simply an
"upgrade" installation?
