i have a new 2125 smartphone from cingular. active-syncing of contacts from
my outlook 9on my desktop) does not work. There are 2 problems - 1) there are
no contacts on my device (i have several 100 contacts in my outlook) at all
after the sync is completed. 2) after doing a hard reset of the device and
deleting and reinstalling activesync on my desktop, i find that the contacts
checkbox in activesync can be selected, however the settings button is
deactivated and the contacts checkbox and label are sort of greyed.

how do i get this to work? i need this going asap as i am on the road very
soon. a quick response is appreciated.

thanks,
Suresh.

First, all the contacts are in your main contacts folder (not
somewhere else in Outlook, or in subfolders)?

Second, try running Help -> Detect and Repair in Outlook, then
reinstall ActiveSync and see if that helps.

all my contacts are in the main contacts folder.

doing the "detect and repair in outlook" did not help.

i still have no contacts on my device. zero contacts on the device - about
650 contacts on my desktop.

Here's an update:

1. i exchanged the phone and got a new phone.
2. i also got a new SIM card (just in case the old SIM card had anything to
do with this).
3. uninstalled activesync on my machine, deleted the directory, and
re-installed activesync
4. connected my new device to my laptop to start synching.
5. once again 'contacts' is greyed out. email, tasks, and calendar is
synhcing and appears on my device. no contacts show up on my device. i have
about 650 contacts in my outlook, all on the main folder.

can anybody with experience in this help? i am really disappointed, that
straight out of the box the device doesn't get me contacts (happens on 2 new
devices), and there is no mention about how to fix this, or why the contacts
item is greyed, although the checkbox is active. However the settings button
is deactivated when 'contacts' is selected in activesync.

i am catching a flight in 1 hour, and would like to get some help on this
ASAP.

interesting - putting outlook in offline mode shows that 'contacts' is no
longer showing up as an item in the activesync dialog - calendar, email,
tasks, and favorites are the only 4 showing.

perhaps we are closer to the solution; what should i be doing to get
contacts to showup as part of my offline profile?

thanks.

btw, i cannot run in cached mode as i am on comcast (a non exchange server)
and it is a pop3 account.

furthermore, while in outlook, i have a personal folders in the folder list
view under which i can see all the email folders (including inbox, send
items, etc.), but copntacts, calendar, and tasks are not seen here. they
appear to be separate tabbed items below the mail tabbed item.

i guess this is normal for a pop3 account.

please let me know how i can get contacts onto my device.

thanks.

Can you try running ScanPST against your PST file - see
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.htm for further info on
running the program.
