circumventing admin rights to add sp2

folks,
in my infinate wisdom i have deleted/uninstalled some components from my
works pc, namely both dial-up and broadband modems and i dont have admin
rights to re-instal them.
i can access the net fine via wireless but alas nothing by direct connection.
i have the drivers disc for pc ( HP Compac nc6000) which has them on but
upon final updating it informs me 'access denied'
any help would be greatly appreciated

Are you posting in the correct group - I cannot see how your prob. is
connected with windows.updates - which deals with all matters concerning
security/critical updates for MS Operating systems.
But then you are using that cranky, error prone web interface to post.
