Citrix Performance Issues

Hi!

We have 2 Presentation Server 4.0 and a 2 Mbit leased line at our HQ i
Sweden. We also have a site in Denmark that has a 512 kbit leased line
wich they (about 7 users) use to connect to us and run a Citrix desktop.
We have two problems. The first one is that it's almost impossible to
view PDF documents in Adobe Reader. The screen isn't updated correctly
if there are some images in the PDF. The second problem is that web
browsing also is problematic if there are many images or flash content.
From time to time they also has problems when entering figures into
Excel. They enter some figures and it takes a second for it to appear on
the screen.

Are these problems due to lack of bandwidth or latency, or both?

Hi Kjell,
512 kb would be OK for a published application, but is probably rather small
for a published desktop, especially if they are browsing the web.
You can optimise of course, using Citrix client settings and policies, but
it is still small.
Especially you will find the bandwidth is killed if anyone prints or
downloads/uploads anything. You need to manage printing and file transfer
very carefully if you have a published desktop and limited bandwidth.
You should be using a QoS mechanism to prioritise Citrix, and you should
also be removing Print and File from the protected Citrix stream.
You can also take some of the load off by giving them local internet access.
