Please help
how does one do a clean install of vista beta 2. Its seems the only way for
me is to upgrade it from xp.

Would like the steps to do a clean install for better performance. If I
reformat the hd first using xp then swayp to vista dvd its not recognizing so
have to reinstall xp first then vista but I want to clean install.

please help
mich

when asked I did click on clean install but during it said that vista will
put everyting in an OLD file. Isnt this upgrading not a clean install how
does one clean install

Your are getting confused. Place your Vista disk for auto boot, and when it
comes up you should get two options, either clean install or upgrade if
Windows sees it is feasible. If you have RAID drivers to install, a driver
request will be seen. On non RAID HDs just click on next, and follow the
bouncing ball (not really). You will be asked where to put the installation,
and unlike prior OSs you do not need unallocated space, as Vista will install
on virtually any available space if it exceeds 25 or so Gigabytes.

Thanks for trying to help. I know I have the vista on auto boot when running
xp and i put in the disk. that is where I get clean install you have already
a windows os all your settings etc... will be placed in the folder called
OLDWINDOWS.

To me, that not quite the CLEAN install I had in mind. Like when I do that
with my XP PRO its ask me to intall but before it does it reformats the
harddrive VISTA apparently doesnt do that

You can format a partition from windows setup. You will need to click
the "Advanced Options" button when it is asking you which partition to
install to. It will then allow you to format a partition.

sorry to sound so dumb i am usually bright with these things. You say I can
do it from windows setup you mean from the vista windows setup. I would like
the entire disk to be windows or maybe not since I hear its not wise. either
way thanks alot for helping you are getiting there in helping me understand
installing this vista. I never ever had a clean install problem such as this
one cause winme, 95 and etc all come with clean install ON CD.

thanks again but still hesitant on the clean install. even if I reinstall
windows now with vista and it reads clean install all it reads is files and
settings of previous windos will be placed in a folder called OLD. This
message I get hitting clean install either from xppro or vitsa

Anytime you see the windows.old folder you have done a clean installation to
a partition containing another copy of windows. If you don't want that,
format the target partition first and then there won't be another copy of
Windows to put in windows.old.
