Cleanup after Automatic Updates ?

I am running Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP SP2, both with
Automatic Updates turned on. Do the automatic updates have an impact
on free disk space? IOW, do they leave behind files that could /
should be cleaned up? If so, is there a safe, recommeded way to clean
up after updates?

Thanks
Bob

Yes.

Nope. After 10 days the content of the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\
Downloads folder and its subfolders will/should be cleared automati-
cally.

We have a server that currently has it's \Windows\SoftwareDistribution
\ folder using over 1.1 Gig of disk space. If that doesn't clear up
in 10 days is there an action we should take? Is it safe to just
delete the contents?

Well, you _may_ want to delete the contents of the
\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads folder (note the "Downloads"!)
in case it doesn't clean up (almost) after 10 days. It may be requiered
to stop the Automatic Updates service during deletion and restarting
this service again afterwards.

Bye,
Freudi
