Client PC cannot use DNS

Hi all,

I have set up the DNS server in window server2003 (IP: 192.168.198.1) and i
can ping www.yahoo.com in the server.
However, the client pc of the LAN cannot ping www.yahoo.com after changing
the DNS to this IP and this client can ping this server. In nslookup, "DNS
request time out. timeout was 2 seconds.".
Is there any missing steps i have to configure? e.g. gateway, port etc?

Is there a firewall on the client PC or for the network?

Has a Forwarder to your ISP (in DNS properties, Forwarder tab), been configured on your DNS server?

Hi Ace,

I have stopped the firewall of AVG and has a forwarder to my ISP.
www.yahoo.com can be resolved from it in the DNS server. Please kindly
advice what is missing. Many thanks!

Is there a firewall on the client PC or for the network?

Has a Forwarder to your ISP (in DNS properties, Forwarder tab), been
configured on your DNS server?

Looks like we'll need additional information to diagnose this.

Please supply the following:

1. Unedited ipconfig /all from the server, and from a client.

2. Results of a ping to www.yahoo.com from the client.

3. Run nslookup on the client and from the server with the following commands, and paste the results:
nslookup
> www.yahoo.com

4. Then try the nslookup command with a period on the end of it, as such:
nslookup
> www.yahoo.com. <--- there's a period on the end of it.

5. Then try it the server nslookup is using, as such:
nslookup
server 4.2.2.2
www.yahoo.com
www.yahoo.com. <-- with the period.

Thanks for you prompt reply. My findings are as below. Please note that
there is a traditional chinese characters in the client pc output and hope
it doesn't affect your investigation. You may match the field to the server
side correspondingly. Many Thanks!

Hi May,

One more information. I use my user account to install DNS in the server
(workgroup, not DC) and my account is the member of administrators. Is it
the root cause that client cannot use the DNS services?
