Hey,
I have faced a problem today in my Windows 2003 Cluster and am very much confused in what to do. I have Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise Edition installed on my 2 servers where i have also installed Windows Cluster. It is running superb for almost 4 years with some problems time to time but it didnt gave me headache. Anyways, the problem i am facing is that some of my File Shares in (Windows Cluster Administration) are not coming online again if i move group from Server-2 to Server-1 but if i switch my Cluster Group again from Server-1 to Server-2. All my Cluster's File Share works fine as it didnt have a problem. I did try to bring my File Share online manually by right clicking the File Share. it didnt worked as well. When i move my Cluster from Server-1 to Server-2 it logs errors in Event Viewer as Event Type: Error Event Source: ClusSvc Event Category: Failover Mgr Event ID: 1069 Date: 12/2/2008 Time: 5:10:11 PM User: N/A Computer: SERVER-1 Description: Cluster resource 'Inventory Reports' in Resource Group 'Cluster Group' failed. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. I have tried to check error myself by " http://support.microsoft.com/kb/871111 " I have also tried to do the solution written in above KB but didnt got a solution as i have deleted DNS Entry of Server-1 from DNS Server and closed the dnsmgmt.msc and restarted my Cluster Service at Server-1 and checked DNS Entry in DNS Server for Server-1 and i was surpirsed to see that entry is not created. then i manually created the entry for Server-1 and tried to move my Cluster Group but failed again. Can anyone of your guys help me out. I would be glad if any of you can provide a solution to me. Thanks Shariq |

Can you detail the "sturcture / dependencies" of your "Cluster Group" and
your "Fileshare Group" "Hammad" <> wrote in message news:10F4A5F9-B3FE-40FD-A1B5-... > Hey, > > I have faced a problem today in my Windows 2003 Cluster and am very much > confused in what to do. > > I have Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise Edition installed on my 2 servers > where i have also installed Windows Cluster. It sounds like that might be indicative of a larger issue - you mention that
you can't check the dependencies of the Cluster Group. The log reports: Cluster resource 'Inventory Reports' in Resource Group 'Cluster Group' failed. Is this something still existing or was it possibly deleted / no longer present? You mention that everything works fine when it's on one node vs. another? You might have to move everything to the viable node, evict the other node and add it back in. Just some things to think about... Hope this helps, --Ryan -- Ryan Sokolowski MVP - Clustering MCT, MCITP x3, MCTS x7, MCSE x2, CCNA, CCDA, BCFP "Hammad" <> wrote in message news:1284CA26-C1F1-4946-8BB4-... > Dependencies of Cluster Group is not showing when i try to check > properties > of Cluster Group. > > Possible Owners of Cluster Group are > Server-1 > Server-2 > > Dependencies of File Share are > Cluster Name > > > But i have always given two types of dependencies to my File Sharings > Cluster Name > Cluster IP Address > > > > > > > "Edwin vMierlo [MVP]" wrote: > >> Can you detail the "sturcture / dependencies" of your "Cluster Group" and >> your "Fileshare Group" >> >> >> >> "Hammad" <> wrote in message >> news:10F4A5F9-B3FE-40FD-A1B5-... >> > Hey, >> > >> > I have faced a problem today in my Windows 2003 Cluster and am very >> > much >> > confused in what to do. >> > >> > I have Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise Edition installed on my 2 >> > servers >> > where i have also installed Windows Cluster. It is still existing with me and tried every possible way to do it but didnt
get success All my Folders are located on SAN. I have nothing on these two servers except the Cluster Service and MS-SQL Server 2005 running on Cluster. I did evict the faulty node and add that node again in my Cluster by the same error is happening. Are there any hints in the cluster.log about why the fileshare is failing to
come online? Event ID 1069 is a generic message that basically tells you that a resource
failed. Is the "Inventory Reports" resource a file share resource? You need to look in the c:\windows\cluster\cluster.log file at the time of the failure and see what errors are displayed for that resource. The cluster.log is in GMT time so you'll potentially need to convert this to local time.
